Emmanuel BROSSARD - promotion 2010
With the ECG Business School, students have the opportunity of spending one year in a foreign country, so after my Second Year I decided to come to the UK. My main worry before leaving was that I might lose my French business network, but nowadays with all the processes via internet we can keep in touch with everybody and it would be my challenge to create a new, bigger business network.
I chose the Business School of Abertay (Dundee) in Scotland. I was able to discover the life of an international student, and I created a lot of connections between the courses at ECG and Abertay. This experience proved very effective for me. Firstly, and most importantly, my English level improved and secondly I passed my BA. It was a good thing for me to follow different courses with international teachers in English such as Managerial Economics, Business Research, Organisation and Transformation, Corporate Finance or Human Resources. It wasn't really new for me because at ECG we have some English seminars, so I had already had good training before leaving.
During my year in Scotland, I lived with the famous British horserider Ian Stark. He has won some medals at the Olympic Games, the World Championships and European Championships and when I did not have courses I worked as a groom and rider for him. I discovered Scottish life, the British equestrian world, and a very professional yard with event horses, race horses and hunting horses. We travelled a lot for the competitions and I was able to see a lot of places in the UK and Ireland. I met famous international riders during this experience and it has been a dream for a young rider.
It was a very good experience for myself as I saw different people, habits and opinions. It permitted me to become involved and to be able to analyse everything with another point of view, and it was also amazing for my professional life. I have a lot of business ideas now and I have made some very good contacts and not only in the equestrian world.
I have no regrets about coming here, and if I could stay for a second sandwich year, it would be wonderful!
Nevertheless, I know for sure that this year abroad will enable
me to find a better Trainig Period and do things that I would
not otherwise be able to do if I had not done this year
in Scotland.
